Food ingredients can be toxic to our system as well. Some have been alleged to be cancer causing, cholesterol raising, cardiovascular disease causing and a host of other diseases and discomforts. These ingredients are generally a result of our lifestyle turning to more of convenience rather than actual healthy food. One trademark of taboo foods is that it quickens the cooking process and ensures that the food stays fresh for long. Ultimately when you think of it, how does food stay fresh forever and not age! Impossible concept, right? There you have it! Something’s not right and therefore these following ingredients and additives are banned.

10 Potassium Bromate

It is found in white breads. It causes cancer in animals and is harmful to humans even in small quantities. So imagine a lifetime of eating just white bread! It is used in the bread making process. It induces renal cell tumors and urinary disorders and infections. More info

9 Sulfur Dioxide (E220)

It is found in beer, soft drinks, dried fruit, juices, cordials, wine, vinegar, and potato products. Its use has been prohibited on raw foods and vegetables. 8 Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated HydroxyToluene (BHT)

Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated HydroxyToluene (BHT) are found in Potato chips, gum, cereal, frozen sausages, enriched rice, lard, shortening, candy and jello. It prevents the flavor from going bad, or the food from going rancid. It keeps the color fresh. It affects the neurological system of the brain, alters behavior and has potential to cause cancer. BHA and BHT are oxidants which form cancer-causing reactive compounds in your body. It’s a major endocrine disruptor and can seriously mess up hormones, especially in menopausal women. 7 Sodium Nitrate

It is found in: hotdogs, bacon, ham, luncheon meat, cured meats, corned beef, smoked fish or any other type of processed meat. It is used as a preservative, coloring and flavoring. It is highly carcinogenic once it enters the blood stream. There was an attempt to ban it in the 1970’s but was later vetoed. It actually colors the meat bright red, so stale dry meat is made to look fresh and healthy. They are believed to cause colon cancer and metabolic syndrome and also lead to diabetes. More info

6 Sodium Sulfite (E221)

It is found in wine and dry fruit. There’s a close link between asthmatics and sodium sulfite. It is not harmful to the general populace as such. However, that is still under speculation. 5 Blue, Green, Red and yellow [common food dyes]

They have been linked to adrenal, thyroid, bladder, kidney and brain cancers. The red was banned in 1980 after eight years of debate, following its use in many food and cosmetics. It is found in Chinese food (Chinese restaurant syndrome), chips, cookies, seasonings, frozen dinners and lunch meats. It is a processed flavor enhancer and high levels in the blood stream cause havoc with brain chemistry. Just flavor your food naturally using fresh seasoning to stay away from all these effects. 3 High Fructose Corn Syrup

1 Palm Oil/ Trans Fat
