8 Origins of Malu
OOM is a Sandbox MMORPG developed by Burning Dog Media. The game is very innovative and complex. There are no set classes, players can customize their character very distinctly. There is plenty of PvE and PvP content to be conquered. The game also offers a unique house building system. You can build a house almost anywhere in the huge open world of OOM. They also promise a guild city building possibility. The current release date is not yet defined but will occur in 2013 for sure.
Warframe is a sci-fi themed third-person shooter with a cooperative play style. Warframes are the actual classes of the game of which there are thirteen: Ash, Banshee, Ember, Excalibur, Frost, Loki, Mag, Nyx, Rhino, Saryn, Trinity, Vauban and Volt. These classes are flexible and can be combined to suit the player’s style. Warframe is currently in an Open Beta phase and is published and developed by Digital Extremes but can also be played through GamersFirst.
6 Arcane Saga
This game was originally known as Prius Online, but was shut down, sold to NetMarble and completely revised. The game has four races: Hume, Lon, Ayin, and Beria; and seven playable classes: Gunslinger, Occultist, Huntress, Berserker, Legionnaire, Shadow Templar, and Minstrel. In Arcane Sage your character has a companion called Anima who can summon mercenaries called Gigas. The game has a decent PvE and PvP content. It is under Beta Testing and will be released this year.
Firefall is a highly anticipated MMOFPS published by Red 5 Studios. It has great graphics and a unique implementation of FPS into an open world MMO environment. Classes are called Battleframes in Firefall, and there are five of them: Assault, Biotech, Engineer, Recon and Dreadnaught. Even though it is an FPS game, there is still plenty of PvE content to explore and of course tons of PvP. The game is currently under Open Beta testing.
4 End of Nations
MMORTS games are not very common nowadays. End of Nations is a special example of the great genre. The game is published by Rift’s publisher, Trion Worlds. The game offers a persistent environment and lots of MMO content. It will be Free-to-Play, with an item shop for cosmetics and other valuable items. Throughout the game not only the commander develops, who are the players themselves, but the troops they control as well. The final state of the game will be released in 2013 and is now in a Beta Testing phase.
Wildstar is a sci-fi themed MMORPG by NCSOFT. The graphics look great, even though they have a cartoonish look similar to WoW. There is a huge section of gamers who are eagerly waiting to play this great MMO. Unfortunately it is still under Closed Beta testing, but will be released this year. PvP, instances, Housing System, what more do we want?
2 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
Now this one is really interesting. The original FFXIV was released in September of 2010. The game went on for a while but was widely criticized by the gamers for its lack of MMO features. Basically what they did was refused to implement commonly used and working MMO features that were present in other games. They soon realized their mistakes and after sacking a few people decided to completely revamp the game. The results are very promising. I had a chance to play in the Closed Beta testing, and I was very surprised by the results. Great questing system, totally new interface and revised classes. They did a great job. The Open Beta is promised to come in June 2013.
1 Elder Scrolls Online
Elder Scrolls Online is the MMO adaptation of the very popular Elder Scrolls series, published by Bethesda Softworks. The MMORPG is set a thousand years before Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. The game will include everything we seek in an MMO: dungeons, group quests, PvP features and a complex guild system. There will be three playable factions that will battle in massive PvP scenarios. The stunningly high amount of players waiting for this game and its inherited popularity from the previous Elder Scrolls games, make ESO an obvious winner of this Top 10 list.
